Pros & Cons

  • The variety of work, every day is a new experience doing something new and different learning experiences all the time 2- Working with a diverse range of people from all walks of life, keeps it interesting
  • Leading a team of technicians and being able to work on a wide variety of machinery while learning different skills as technology progresses.
  • Getting to work with a bunch of passionate, fun hard-working colleagues.
  • Sometimes the weather is undesirable to work in.
  • High pressure during peak times and production first mentality.
  • The cold weather has to work outdoors, I don't think it is something to easily just get used to for sure.

Management
Our manager personally is so knowledgeable, easy to approach, understanding and just an all-around genuine person. I think I am personally a bit biased when I say I have the best manager but Mr Apple in general I think has a good judge of character especially with these higher performing roles to ensure they will fit with everyone on the orchards. We often have performance feedbacks which is great for showing you what is the next steps of improvements or where you have done well in other areas. We all have our iPad for clocking in during the day and with these our own Mr Apple email address in which we can receive daily communications from within the company to keep everyone in the loop on what changes are happening or any new updates.

Office Work Environment
We have a head office based in Hastings which is really well maintained and very central to the pack house too. This is where our managers are based. Upon our orchards, we have small ports one building for different things such as one for office spacing and one for smoko rooms. These are basic sets outs but everything we need is kept in these spaces and are very spaced out around the place for when working in different areas of the orchard. Dress code, for myself being an orchardist as long as you are comfortable and able to do your job in the attire you have chosen anything is okay. As a permanent staff, we are provided with work boots, wet weather gear and a few Mr Apple logo work shirts which are nice to be provided for.

Pay is generally based upon progression, if you have a can-do attitude and are willing to learn new things you can expect pay rises. I have found personally that the industry is well-paying especially when you have a few extra hours during the week. We don’t necessarily as orchardists get bonuses but with Mr Apple, there really awesome with acknowledging hard efforts during harvest and will often give us some free days of company leave as a thank you alongside at Christmas time we get hampers and paid work dos and are well appreciated.
