Pros & Cons

  • The company has a fantastic grad culture and allows us to organise our own (fully funded) bonding events.
  • The quality and breadth of the work we're able to do. My team has put me on a variety of different projects over the past 9 months and I've learnt a tremendous amount because of it. I also think Atlassian isn't afraid to really trust it's graduates, and the quality of people is just amazing, I haven't met a single person here who I haven't been able to relate to and get along with.
  • Lots of learning opportunities, great perks (free food, generous allowances, nice offices)
  • Amazing people. Very supportive. Everyone I've encountered has been open to assisting wherever possible. Perks and benefits are excellent. Work life balance is great with the team distributed over at least 3 geographical locations.
  • So much flexibility and the workplace culture is very strong. I genuinely believe they care deeply for their employees.
  • Genuinely I don't have a proper answer for this. I guess the worst thing for me would be Imposter Syndrome, given it's such an incredible company my main fear is that I'm not good enough to work with such brilliant people.
  • Atlassian is a large company so it can be hard to create connections with a lot of different people.
  • How big it is
  • It can sometimes be hard, as a creative, working at a company that is mostly software engineers. It can be challenging when collaborating, due to having different working styles/different personalities sometimes.
  • They don't have an office in Melbourne

The promotion cycle seems really fair, based on well defined roles and performance metrics. The frequent meetings with your manager allows you to really understand what's expected of you and what you must improve on to advance.

There are lots of company events at the offices, and remote events on Zoom too. They're super enjoyable and a great opportunity to meet new people. Like I said earlier, everyone I've met at Atlassian has been fantastic, and people I'd more than happily spend time with.

My managers are great, they genuinely care about you and your work. Atlassian is great because others on your team who aren't your managers also act like mentors to you as well.

Office Work Environment
The office location is right in the heart of Sydney. I have easy access to a wide range of restaurants and shops. Our office has a gym, band room, kitchen that is always filled with snacks, drinks, and free lunch everyday, recharge rooms with massage chairs, a karaoke room, podcast and meeting rooms, private booths for calls, and of course desks to sit at (one floor has curved ultrawide monitors). Dress code is very relaxed and casual, from exercise gear if we're heading to one of the free fitness classes, or fancy attire if we're going out that night.

Training
The training I received when I first joined was really good, I was paired up with a Mentor and a Buddy to help catch me up to speed with all the Technical and Social aspects of Atlassian. The ongoing training is great too. We have online courses that teach us more advanced topics related to Atlassian, and also A learning budget that allows us to buy books or courses related to our roles to advance our learning too.

Atlassian is THE flexible working company. We are free to do our work whenever and however. Obviously, you need to attend meetings but I am free to take an hour here and make it up later if required. This allows a lot of flexibility around my daily routine.

Sustainability
We do all the basic necessities around the office, like having many different kinds of bins and making sure to use re-usable mugs and cups etc. The main reason for the 10 rating here is because we are building a completely sustainable new office that should be ready by 2026/2027.
