Culture at Atlassian

8.6
8.6 rating for Culture, based on 27 reviews
Please describe your company's culture both in the office and after hours. Let us know about the structure and hierarchy, cooperation and teamwork, and socialising amongst colleagues.
Company culture is amazing. I can sit with the grads instead of with my team so there's lot of banter and young energy. After hours the company gives us money to hang out with each other so we take full advantage of that and often organise a hangout every week.

No expectations to work after hours (unless you are on call). During hours work is largely individual, but on the same large project so that everyone has some context.

In the office, although there is managerial and individual contributor hierarchy's based on role, interacting with colleagues feels quite flat (meaning I can have a conversation with my skip manager and not feel like there is a big distance or hierarchal difference between us). One of the values of Atlassian is play as a team, so people are always willing to help others on their work or if people have any questions about products or services within Atlassian. As Atlassian provides a lot of events and opportunities for employees to socialise, it's a common scene to see many people staying back in the office to have drinks or play games after work, and definitely feels very welcoming and sociable.

The culture is really great. We are structured into teams that report to a chain of managers all the way up to the C-Suite. Generally I'd say there are about 6/7 layers between an Individual Contributor and the C-Suite. I personally think the hierarchy works well. The cooperation amongst team members is great, everyone is very supportive of one another and people are always willing to one another with problems which they might be considered the Subject Matter Experts on. The team works well together too, always ready to thoroughly review PRs, take over if someone can't do some work for whatever reason, or provide detailed advise on a projects direction. Socialising at Atlassian is brilliant. We have monthly socials, drinks after work and a budget for socialising outside of work hours with our employees. It's absolutely awesome. I never thought I'd be this much of a fan of socialising in relation to the company I work for.

Fantastic culture. People here are very kind and supportive. Can see employees coming in on the weekends to play boardgames. Great perks.

My teammates and friends are really awesome, and I get so much out of coming into the office and socialising with grads/colleagues. The culture in management leaves a bit to be desired, but I would still say it is better with transparency than some internships I have done.

Everyone at the company is very friendly and supportive. I've made many friendships that extend beyond the workplace. There is always fun events both virtual and in-office going on every month. Building connections within your team and with others in the company is highly encouraged. The company pays for any events and activities such as team lunches, bouldering, karaoke, etc.

The culture in the office is one that is always friendly and busy. During work hours, people are professional but approachable and allow you to create genuine connections in work. After hours, people are free to go to their personal lives or stick around to have a few drinks or grab a bite with colleagues. There is a very flat structure and hierarchy - I often speak candidly to my manager's manager. The graduate culture is also very strong - people are amazing.

There are lots of company events at the offices, and remote events on Zoom too. They're super enjoyable and a great opportunity to meet new people. Like I said earlier, everyone I've met at Atlassian has been fantastic, and people I'd more than happily spend time with.

It's great, people are very open to socialising and the office enables that through their facilities. Structure is pretty hierarchal

It’s great that the company encourages remote work as well as in person socialising - this is incentivised by the work bringing teams together at least twice a year for face to face socials. People are nice and passionate about their work.
