Pros & Cons

  • The culture - it's so welcoming and allowed me as a graduate to feel equipped and supported into my role and as my first job in the real world.
  • Flexible working, culture and diversity, high value on wellbeing and the large scope of work you can get involved in.
  • My department has an amazing culture. It is really supportive and everyone genuinely wants others to do well so they are quick to offer assistance when needed
  • Sometimes the line between who does what and what project belongs to who is blurred, so some people don't take responsibility, which then gets confusing and annoying.
  • Processes can take a little while and there is more red tape around certain activities/tasks/projects than other organisations perhaps. It's a shame that the perception of AT from the outside is not reflective of the culture inside.
  • Sometimes the work can become repetitive

There is a focus on sustainability in the office and also the projects that are going. There is a focus on reducing CO2 emissions with replacing diesel with hydrogen and electric buses and encouraging more active modes of transport.

The company is filled with passionate and supportive individuals who have a common vision to make Auckland a better place. Everyone's very supportive and there's no shortage of help or advice.

Diversity
There is a lot of focus on diversity, as expected from a government organisation. There is a lot of diversity networks and the company has decent leave provisions. There are certain pathways that allow people to become permanent employees. I have heard that a minimum GPA requirement has also been removed.

The managers I have are really supported and want to see me growing and doing a rotation that I would be interested in.

Main office is located in the viaduct. Great facilities - showers, personal lockers, bike racks, coffee machines..etc. Hot desking so you're always sitting with different people and there are seating hubs across the office for informal meetings/catch ups. There's also a multi faith prayer room, parents room and first aid room. Very informal dress code. There are also offices located in Manukau, Henderson and Albany.

Applied online with CV and cover letter. Did some puzzles and a completed a typical video interview. The assessment center consisted of a interview with two employees, a group activity and an time-based written exam relating to the role (three topics with sub-questions). Mostly about my ambitions and then behavior based questions . Look up the values and projects you might be interested in. There is a lot happening (for all sorts of disciplines) so if you see something you are enthusiastic about, make sure you can get this across during your interview.

Based on my role I have no problem with it and think it is reflective of the market for similar roles. However I can't comment beyond my role! Lots of discounts for things including e-bikes, movies, tech etc. Also the company cars are EVs.

So many workshops for both career and personal development that you have the opportunity to sign up for. They are considered BAU so you are encouraged to upskill and keep learning.

Since the second big lockdown it has been a lot more flexible which I think is great. It shows trust and autonomy in employees and values work/life balance which is becoming increasingly recognized. Overall flexibility depends on the team.

There are dedicated roles to reducing project footprints and the company cars are EVs so I would say quite dedicated.
