Kawarau Paurini

This project was very interesting, and I learnt many things along the way.

What are you studying?

Studying towards a Bachelor of Arts: Psychology at the University of Otago.

Where do you whakapapa from?

Ngā Puhi and Ngāti Raukawa ki te Tonga

What mahi did you work on?

I was fortunate enough to work with the Tatauranga umanga Māori (TUM) team. TUM presents information on two subsets of Māori businesses that contribute to Aotearoa economy: Māori authorities (MAs) and other Māori enterprises (OMEs).

During my time on the TUM team, I did a deep dive into Ngāi Tahu and learnt how they operated as a corporation. Along with the deep dive, I also compared data between TUM and Ngāi Tahu to examine any differences and similarities. This project was very interesting, and I learnt many things along the way.

What advice would you give future interns?

One piece of advice I would give is not to be too hard on yourself and to believe in yourself. We are all unique and gifted and we need to believe in ourselves so that we can grow and achieve our dreams.
