Career Prospects
The firm is very supportive of career progression and is very transparent about this. We have catch ups with our supervising partners regularly and receive feedback on what we do well and what we need to improve on in a constructive manner. How we are tracking with KPI's is a big component of our career progression, but the firm also looks at other ways that we add value to the firm ie through mentoring other staff and marketing.

Culture
There are lots to do and people are social. As there are lots of people in the firm - there are lots of different things to get involved with, like social sport. Each team feels like its own "workplace" in the sense that they all operate very differently, and you report to a particular supervising partner, so their work ethic/managing style will set the tone of your work. There are lots of morning teas and random coffee events where you get to interact with other teams around the office.

Diversity

Diversity
I think that my company is very committed to diversity. Holland Beckett has a diversity and inclusion committee who specifically look at how we can do better. Holland Beckett focuses on addressing issues faced by women, minorities etc by hosting events that raise awareness and contributing to organisations who are committed to helping members of these communities. Holland Beckett also has fantastic paid parental leave policies and is supportive and welcoming of people from all walks of life. I think these are some of the reasons staff retention rates are great. For these reason, they have great retention rates.

I feel that I am given opportunities which challenge me but that I am surrounded by a lot of support. This makes my work interesting and I feel that I am always learning and developing my skills.

Management
My managers are extremely accessible and approachable. They approach internal communication and feedback in a constructive yet honest and frank way. I feel that I often receive praise for the things I do well, and when there are things I need to work on, my managers are upfront about this and suggest how I can improve, rather than just criticising me. They are also open to our feedback on their leadership style.

Office Work Environment
The office is very central which is helpful and the facilities (ie staff tea room etc) are really nice. The dress code is "dress for your day" which is great.

Recruitment
During the interview process I was encouraged to think about whether Holland Beckett is a good fit for me, rather than treating the interview process as a one-sided assessment by Holland Beckett. Everyone involved in the recruitment process was very helpful with answering any questions I had and made me feel really comfortable in the interviews. This made me feel that I could be myself and answer the questions as best I could. I was asked a variety of classic interview questions eg. what areas of law are you interested in? What are your best strengths? Tell us about a time you overcame conflict in the workplace? I asked friends and family what they thought my strengths and weaknesses were. I also wrote down a lot of practice answers to try and figure myself out. Things like - describe yourself in three words. I think it's important to figure out a bit about yourself and try to see if you know what things you like - what type of work do you find important? Are you more people focused or research focused? I also read about the partners I was interviewing with and also about other partners I thought I might want to work for.

I think that I am paid very well compared to other law graduates at my stage. If we exceed targets there are also opportunities for bonuses. We receive a wellness benefit each year which we can use on anything that contributes to our wellness, we get a day off for our birthday, extra leave for graduation and admission ceremonies, free dinners if we stay at work later (which is usually not necessary), paid learning opportunities outside of the firm, free membership of work sport teams, bonus to join clubs/ teams where there are opportunities for solicitors to market themselves

Training
The company provides seminars weekly, presented by practitioners in the firm. These are really insightful. Holland Beckett is also really supportive of people going to conferences/ taking up learning opportunities outside of the firm. You also learn a lot on the job and senior staff are very patient with more junior staff who are learning.
