Pros & Cons

  • Culture - generally very welcoming. Ability to progress - being a large company means there are plenty of opportunities to go into different areas of the business
  • I think the culture of the company is really good; everyone I met has always been willing to help and share knowledge and expertise, of which there is a lot of. As it is a global company, there are also many opportunities for growth, learn new skills, and to try different things.
  • The culture for sure!!
  • Working for a very large company means that although there's a lot of opportunity, sometimes to get things over the line, there's a lot of people and hoops everything has to go through. It may also be hard to see direct impact as everything is viewed on a large scale, but it’s important to know that every project counts.
  • As it is a large company, you get quite deep into your responsibilities in your role. Unlike smaller companies, it can be harder to gain a wide perspective of other areas of the business unless you change roles
  • It is big so takes/will take a long time to understand/gain a holistic picture

Everyone’s really friendly and open to a chat, the social club that is run in Auckland is great as well and offers various events.

Diversity
I think that diversity is always still a work in progress, but I have seen some great things such as having a prayer room, participation in pride, and great maternity leave with guaranteed job to come back to for mothers. In terms of the grad cohort I think there is good diversity amongst this, and when recruiting there is no open exclusion of anyone.

I can only speak to the first 6-month rotation I've worked in. I've had a mixture of exciting and mundane tasks as you would expect in any grad role. I've taken the lead and sat back. I really enjoy the dynamic nature of my team.

Very satisfied - I know I can talk to and am comfortable talking to her whenever. I am also comfortable contacting other managers in my space. There is good internal comms from the exec as well. You can receive badges for good work and that is really nice!

Office Work Environment
I have two offices that I currently work in. My primary office is on a manufacturing site. Dress code is pretty relaxed and facilities are great for the jobs at hand. Secondary office is head office which has a nicer dress code (Business casual). Facilities at head office are amazing, great office.

Recruitment
The process was very quick ! I submitted my CV then completed online assessments and short video recordings within a few days of applying. A week later I completed a group interview online where we completed tasks and worked in teams. Then I had my individual interview where I completed a case study and then formal questioning. Be authentic. Being self-aware of your strengths, shortcomings, areas or improvements, and also self-awareness in social settings.

Experience and opportunity at this stage in your career is way more important than a slightly higher salary. Grad salaries are pretty much the national average which makes sense for one of the biggest companies.

So many development opportunities. Internal and external. I am part of our Graduate Engineering development program but have done many engineering and energy related trainings.

Once again this differs in teams, but the company is quite flexible in that they leave that up to your team to decide. As I come later into the office I might stay a bit later, or if I come early head home earlier. I like that you can be flexible when needed, and that there is no expectation on graduates to be working long hours outside of working hours.

Sustainability
Being a leader in sustainability is one of Fonterra’s long-term aspirations, and make continuous effort to reach goals of recyclable packaging by 2025, no coal boilers by 2037, and reduction in emissions by 2030.
