Auckland District Health Board provides health and disability services to more than half a million people living in central Auckland, regional services for Northland and greater Auckland, and specialist national services for the whole of New Zealand. They are part of Te Whatu Ora – Health New Zealand, the overarching organisation for New Zealand’s national health service. Te Whatu Ora leads the day-to-day running of the health system, with functions delivered at local, district, regional and national levels.
Are you interested in becoming an intern in a friendly and forward-thinking Pharmacy department? They offer an ideal opportunity to utilise and develop your knowledge and skills in the largest teaching hospital in the country, where their aim is to support the patient medication pathway to deliver best outcomes by putting patients first.
Work under the supervision of a registered pharmacist to develop the skills and knowledge required to gain registration as a pharmacist. Participate in the provision of a pharmacy service to patients at Te Toka Tumai Auckland. You will also contribute more widely through their involvement in the wider functions of the department e.g. teaching and training, research, and medication safety.

This is a 12-month internship where you will experience a comprehensive training programme that complements that of the Pharmaceutical Society of New Zealand, and includes clinical ward pharmacy, dispensing, manufacturing and medicines information. You will gain competence and confidence by working closely with their experienced pharmacists in areas such as Surgery, General Medicine, Care of the Elderly, Mental Health and Paediatrics. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to pharmacy practice within the department through a research project.
