About Amazon

Amazon Robotics, a division of Amazon.com, pioneers automation solutions for fulfilment centres, leveraging advanced robotics to streamline operations and boost efficiency. Innovations like autonomous transport robots and robotic arms optimize sorting, packing, and inventory management, enhancing speed and accuracy in Amazon's logistics network.

Your role

About the internship:

This role is a 12-week internship to join AR full-time (40 hours/week) from May to August 2024. Amazon Robotics co-op opportunities will be based in the Greater Boston Area, in their two state-of-the-art facilities in Westborough and North Reading, MA. Both campuses provide a unique opportunity for interns to have direct access to robotics testing labs and manufacturing facilities.

About the team:

They are a smart team of doers who work passionately to apply cutting-edge advances in robotics and software to solve real-world challenges that will transform their customers’ experiences in ways they can’t even imagine yet. They invent new improvements every day. They are Amazon Robotics and they will give you the tools and support you need to invent with us in ways that are rewarding, fulfilling and fun.

A Systems engineer will work as a part of a team of 1-5 engineers supporting an on-site project manager to provide technical oversight on the installation of both third-party and Amazon-designed robotics equipment. The deployments involve extensive collaboration with third-party installers and contracted engineers, construction, hardware, software, IT, and many other partner teams – communication skills with both internal and external partners and customers are a must.

As an Amazonian, the candidate will be expected to be able to show independent initiative to identify and solve problems in real time during a project and drive continuous improvement projects forward to avoid recurrences.

Key job learning opportunities:

The Robotics Systems Engineer is a key member of the Amazon Robotics deployment team overseeing the installation, troubleshooting, and commissioning of Amazon Robotics equipment within new and existing fulfillment centers. This field engineering-based role requires proven technical skills related to the deployment of robotic equipment including work with mechanical, electrical, networking, and software systems during a deployment.

The robotics systems that the systems engineers will be deploying may be in various phases of a product life cycle. When supporting new products, the candidate will be expected to work to develop process documentation and modify the existing processes in partnership with project and program managers to drive business performance and sustainability. Proven technical understanding, a love of fieldwork, and a keen interest in diving deep into the workings of the many robotics systems that Amazon uses are critical to success in this role.

Project duration can range from a few days to several months and include travel across the US. International work is available for candidates interested in pursuing it.
