Unlock Your Graduate Potential: Expert Tips to Stand Out in Your Applications

If you're applying for a graduate role at The Property Group (TPG) we understand that this might be the first professional job you've applied for. Applying for a job can be daunting even for those more experienced job seekers, so you're definitely not alone in feeling the nerves!

Here at TPG, we're all about supporting our graduate applicants every step of the way. We want you to feel confident and empowered, so you can showcase your best self throughout the entire application process.  To help you prepare, here are some tips to make yourself, and your graduate application, stand out in the crowd. Let's dive in and get you on the path to success…

Your initial application

Receiving your application is the first impression we get of you. Make it count!

Read the job advert carefully

Before hitting "Apply Now," soak in every detail of the job advert. It’s important to understand the role, what TPG does, and what we stand for. Ensure this aligns with your skills, values, and career goals. Don't overlook the application requirements; so you can make sure you know what we need from you.

Remember your supporting documents

Our graduate applications require a CV, cover letter, and a copy of your most recent academic transcript. Missing any of these could mean your application doesn't get the attention it deserves. With the volume of applications we receive, we might not have time to reach out if something's missing. So, triple-check and make sure everything's in there to give yourself the best shot.

Take care in your application

TPG is very proud to produce high quality work, so we want see that quality in our graduate applications. Take time to make sure your application is free of errors, and ask a friend or family member to take a second look.

Your CV is important to ensure we can learn about your history and skills, but it’s the cover letter that really allows you to shine. Tell us your story, share your passion, and tell us why TPG is the perfect match for you. Keep it concise, aim for one page – enough to get our attention and leave us wanting more!

Video meet and greet

If we like your application, you may be invited to submit a short video. We will give you clear instructions at the time, but here are some key things to remember:

Pay attention to the brief

Stick to the specified time limit, and make sure that your response addresses points we give you in the guidelines.

Present yourself well

The video screen is your chance to make a great impression. You don’t need to suit up, but perhaps trade the hoodie for something a little more appropriate. Make sure you’re in a quiet place away from noise and distraction, so we can focus on you.

Don’t rush it

You don’t need a perfectly polished video, but it should be something you’re proud to submit. Take a moment to review it before you send it to us. If you’re not happy – remember we won’t know if you recorded it twice!

Interview day

OK, so you’ve made it through the initial application and the video screen, great job! Here are some ways you can prepare for a successful day:

Do some research

Before your interview, it's worth doing some research on TPG. You don't have to memorize every detail, but taking a peek at our website can give you valuable insights. Check out our standout projects and the services we offer. If something catches your eye, make a note of it – it could be a great talking point during the interview. Additionally, take a look at our People page to get acquainted with your selection panel. It's all about showing your interest and making a connection!

Whether it’s about logistics, what to expect on the day, or questions about TPG or the graduate programme… ask away. Feel free to jot down your questions beforehand so you don't forget, and don't worry about pulling out your notebook during the interview. It shows us you're prepared and eager to learn more!
