Career Prospects at WSP New Zealand

7.6
7.6 rating for Career Prospects, based on 26 reviews
Please tell us about promotion possibilities and fill us in on what it takes to move up the ranks.
Clear career progression framework for graduates with regular pay reviews. Only comment would be if you're not working in a strictly engineering or architecture job the graduate training and career progression help events can sometimes be a bit irrelevant as they tend to be very targeted at the bulk of the grad jobs here.

Requires paperwork and proven competencies. Grad to intermediate progression is well defined at approx 2 year.
Graduate, Christchurch
Time and hard work are required to move up the ranks, but these are well rewarded
Graduate, Hamilton
Remuneration is reviewed twice a year as a graduate.

WSP really encourages you to set Career Experience, Performance and Development goals and openly discuss them with your manager. The role and progression level matrices are easily accessible on the Intranet, which allows you to identify criteria/skills to work towards in order to achieve promotion and career progression.

Assumption to move to level 3 next year after finishing 2 years as a graduate, easy clear process of 2 years
Graduate, Christchurch
Haven't had too much to do with promotion opportunities as I am still relatively new to the business.
Graduate, Hamilton
There is a clear path for progression, however I do believe that graduates can be promoted before finishing the program if their skills meet the requirements. This doesn't mean that they need to leave the program early, they can still stay in the program but change the title. This ensures graduates' growth being recognized.

Global company is good
Graduate, Auckland
probably haven't been here long enough to know.

I am grateful that my interest has been encouraged and that WSP is open to changes in career pathways.
Graduate, New Plymouth
Given it's a large company, people don't need to go through tough times (for the better or worse). So it's hard to find opportunities to move up. Normal promotions are as expected
Graduate, Wellington
At WSP: There are clearly defined career progression pathways with resources available on our company internet portal to find out expected time to progress and what is expected of you to progress up the ranks. As a graduate, I will move up a rank after spending 2 years as a graduate and showing that I am making progress in the skills I am learning and obtaining the required knowledge to complete jobs.
Graduate, Christchurch
Graduates get a pay progression every 6 months, but it is a standard contract so if you are excelling you won't be paid more than others but once you graduate to an engineer you get to renegotiate your contract. Moving up the ranks is something I'm new to and unfamiliar with.

WSP has a well laid out career progression system and clearly states what its looking to see demonstrated in order to be promoted. Team leaders and managers actively encourage career promotions where appropriate. Promotion opportunities typically come with demonstrating improvements in all aspects of work.
Graduate, Nelson
So far so good. I have been given a pay rise 6 months in and receive regular feedback on how I am progressing. When I seek advice on how to further improve and where my next steps might take me I get valuable suggestions and ideas as well as support to make those improvements.
Graduate, Queenstown
I come off graduate program soon. Company has a matrix and definitions of performance attributes to move up ranks which is quite clearly and explicitly defined.
