The Graduate Diploma of Teaching (Primary) is a one-year full-time or two-year part-time intensive course which you can take on campus as an internal student (at Palmerston North or Auckland) or in your own home as a distance student. The programme aims to develop professional understandings and the practical skills required to guide children's learning in New Zealand primary school classrooms.
This course is designed to build on the breadth of knowledge and life skills you bring with you and to further enhance your disposition for learning and teaching.
To obtain a place within a teacher education programme you must be selected, gain entry into the University and gain admission to the programme. Please check the regulations.
In addition to meeting the entrance requirements to Massey University students selected for the Graduate Diploma of Teaching (Primary) with Massey University must hold the minimum entry level of one of the following qualifications:
Applicants with qualifications obtained overseas must have these qualifications assessed by New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) to determine comparability with New Zealand qualifications. The NZQA International Qualifications Assessment must be provided at the time of applying. NZQA Assessments older than three (3) years at the time of applying may not be accepted. If this applies to you, please contact NZQA, Qualification Review Service requesting a review of the original assessment notes. They will inform you if you need to re-apply to NZQA. NZQA accreditation can take up to 35 working days.

Graduates of the Graduate Diploma of Teaching (Primary) will be eligible to apply for provisional teacher certification with the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand. As a provisionally certificated teacher, you will be qualified to teach in New Zealand primary and intermediate schools.
