Pros & Cons

  • The team I have are so helpful
  • 3 days WFH (potentially more depending on your team) - flexibility to start when you want - given lots of opportunities and experiences - friendly and caring co-workers
  • Above average salary
  • Toll has offered an incredibly supportive environment to start my career. In the months that I have been with Toll, they have ensured that I have been aptly trained and given all the information I need to succeed in my placements. Furthermore, the placement managers and operational staff are extremely welcoming and while giving guidance trust that I am able to do the work that they include me on. I have already been able to submit work that has benefitted their operations.
  • This is the first year Toll is having technology graduates and therefore it is quite boring since there isn't much to do
  • The only issue is that you may have to travel a fair bit. The nature of Toll is fairly industrial, with some corporate elements. This means however outside of Head office and Regional management offices, the sites you may work at require some bit of travel, as most industrial area's are on the outskirts of cities.

The company also seeks internal people before wanting to hire people externally so they are very flexible when people want to change departments or fields.

From what I can see most people are very positive about Toll while maintaining realism. There are elements in all business that aren't so great however, the attitude around the business is more of acceptance that we have these issues and are looking for constructive ways to fix them.

Diversity
Not sure about recruitment process, and I typically tend to leave discussion of identity out of the workplace. However on surface value and observations from working here, it seems that Toll is incredibly diverse.

The management teams are extraordinarily accessible and friendly to the staff. they make it really easy to approach them with conversation or issues you may have. My experience with them is very good, with them being able to chat with me about ongoing performance, how I'm doing, and ways I can improve, or area's I’m doing well in.

The head office at St Kilda Road is very nice, clean and appeals to pretty much everyone Dress code is formal but not blazer / suit formal, just a shirt and dress pants. I believe it is called business casual?

Recruitment
The application process was one of the best ones I've ever had. I received emails from a person all the way through, responding to each task that I had to do. There were 3 rounds of interviews, with an assessment in one of them, mostly relating to situation response.

The grad development program is very very good. They take you through multiple modules of professional development including, understanding your personality type and how you can use this at work, Project Management (Prince 2), a number of presentation skills workshops, and much more. Further while on the job, you learn so many different ways of doing things from interacting with the team, so you can pick and choose what works best for you.

The site I work on is a 6am -6pm security controlled warehouse. In saying that I typically work 8 hours a day, say 8-4pm. They are flexible with working from home arrangements but prefer you in the office, as being an operational site, you may sometimes need to go down to the warehouse for elements of your tasks.

The company is moving towards electric and a more environmentally friendly future. They have electric forklifts where applicable and will be moving toward electric trucks and other stuff like that. They will also be purchasing carbon credits to become carbon neutral.
