Kyle Spriggs

I started out as an intern during my university summer break. This gave me a great opportunity to see what Stantec was like. If they were the type of company I could see myself working for the long term and equally, to see how I would fit in with the Stantec team.

What's your name and job title? What did you study?

How did you get to your current job position and for how long have you occupied it?

How can students best prepare for interviews?

Do some research into the companies values and prepare some questions about them. An interview is an opportunity for you and the company you are applying for to find more out about each other. Make sure you are relaxed going into the interview. If you have reached the interview stage then you are already considered good enough for the job. The interview is an opportunity to show how you are different from everyone else applying.

How can students set themselves apart from their peers?

Have something simple that is memorable at the start of your CV. For example, mention a sport or instrument that you play and are interested in.

What are the do’s and don’ts in an interview?

Do act and speak confidently and remember to ask questions. Relax and be yourself. But remember to be professional about it. Dress-up nicely. First impressions are usually more important than the interview. Don’t be arrogant in your responses.

What is your number one tip for students when interviewing?

Job interviews are opportunities for both you and the company to learn about each other. Remember to ask questions about what you would like to find out about the company and determine if they are the right fit for you personally.
