What you'll work on:

Developed entirely in-house, our trading system is the cornerstone of our success. With no external clients, we operate in a fast feedback, quick release environment. Our opportunities are varied and they're all underpinned by a need for optimally engineered solutions and elegant production code. As an Intern, you'll become part of one of our Development teams and take on your own project intended for production.

Our work includes:

  • Low-latency connectivity software where every nanosecond matters.
  • Pricing theory and the opportunity to improve our mathematical models and algorithms.
  • Detailed user interfaces that allow our Traders to manage large volumes of information.
  • System optimisation based on market event data analysis.
  • Partnering with our Traders (your clients) and other Developers to solve challenging, open ended problems.
  • Immersing yourself in C++, C# or Python, so that you can truly understand how speed, control and data can improve our systems.

What you'll learn:

You'll partner closely with your in-house clients, providing you with detailed insight into the optimisation of technology for performance and reliability. Your internship will be overseen by our dedicated Head of Technology Education, with workshops and projects to help you develop the technical and non-technical skills to support your success.

You'll also have:

  • A one-week Bootcamp to get you up to speed on trading concepts and our development process.
  • Weekly lunch and learns to understand the various aspects of our business.
  • A development mentor to guide you through your project.
  • A 'buddy' to help you find your way around the organisation and provide advice from a graduate perspective

Who you are

At heart, you're a problem solver. You don't stop until you've figured out a solution and then found a way to improve it even further. You're also:

  • A distinction average, penultimate year student in Computer Science, Software/Electrical/Mechatronic Engineering or IT.
  • Deeply knowledgeable about object orientated design and development concepts (experience with C++, C# or Java are a must).
  • Curious to learn and are comfortable reaching out to those more knowledgeable than yourself.
  • Comfortable discussing complex technical ideas.
  • Passionate about software and have your own out-of-classroom projects or extra-curricular activities to prove it.
  • Keen to work alongside the best Developers and Traders in the industry, with the humility to continually challenge yourself to improve and grow.

Who we are:

Optiver. It's a combination of the Dutch words for 'trading' and 'options'. And that's what we do. We trade options (and other financial products) in the world's markets.

Optiver's a different beast. We don't have clients. Or dress codes. We don't have a stifling organisational hierarchy. And we don't have the ego-driven culture you might be expecting from finance. That's not us. We're about the challenge. Our people are driven to solve open-ended problems in the most competitive market there is. We celebrate fast feedback and quick solutions. We collaborate to innovate. We share knowledge, ideas and the glory when everything goes right.

Optiver has been around for more than 30 years. We're an electronic market maker operating around the globe. We work to improve the market, trading options and other financial instruments. With more than 1000 people around the world working to improve the market, Optiver's a quiet powerhouse of creative problem solving and collaboration. We like challenges. We love success. And we're proud of our culture, designed to give you plenty of opportunity and support to do amazing things.

Our perks:

We want the best and we want our people focused on delivery. So, we make life easy for you by taking care of the little things. Like lunch, which our in-house chefs prepare every day. And coffee, free from our barista. And fitness, with your free gym membership and access to group training sessions. There are massages every week, meditation training and lots of wellness perks. There are also plenty of ways to unwind, from our famous games room and social clubs to our many internal sports teams. And with a culture that celebrates wins, you can bet that from our monthly social events, annual trip, Christmas party and more, you'll find time to meet your fellow Optiverians and enjoy a party or two.
