I work in the Foods division on the MAGGI brand. We make and sell Noodles, recipe mixes, simmer sauces and Asian sauces. As a kid I ate MAGGI every week. I love working with a brand and products that I am passionate about.
In my current role I support the sales and marketing teams. I use shopper and consumer data to gain insights which are used to develop offers that best meet the needs of MAGGI’s customers and consumers. I am responsible for reporting and am given hands on experience developing sales stories and presenting internally and externally to customers. I often work in cross functional teams with everyone from supply chain, consumer insights, technical and factory, marketing, sales, finance and more. This has given me the chance to work with products from inception, right up until the point they are brought to market. The sales and analytical skills as well as the general business experience have given me a solid foundation to build my career from.
I grew up and went to school in Sydney. After school I was given the opportunity to travel and in 2011 went on exchange to Dublin City University. After travelling I took a year off and worked full time for a local council in a variety of roles. I wasn’t sure what type of role I wanted but had decided that I wanted a role at a big company, on a graduate program with future career opportunities. Nestle was the
perfect fit and gave me the opportunity to decide exactly what type of role I wanted while getting that all important foot in the door. After completing the various roles in the graduate program (Field sales, marketing and a merchandise space planning role) I was given this role in Foods which I have been working in for about a year and a half.
Someone from any background could do this role. I would go even further and say that people of different backgrounds are actively encouraged as you will have something different to add!
The only prerequisites are a hard working attitude, an inquisitive mind and a basic understanding of numbers.
I love working with products that I grew up with. In the short time I have been here I have enjoyed seeing the brand evolve. The most satisfying thing about my job is being able to gain an insight and work with the wider team to mould the product offer to address that consumers need.
The role requires analytical thinking and involves numbers. If you don’t like numbers or enjoy asking the question WHY, then this is probably not the job for you. Reporting and merchandise space planning are not the most exciting tasks. Understanding exactly what is needed each month has given me the freedom to deliver on these tasks and focus on other areas of the role that I enjoy more.
