Pros & Cons

  • Working with awesome people who are always willing to help each other out. Lots of development opportunities for graduates
  • Great work environment, helpful colleagues
  • Industry leader in the chemical industry. Very varied work, no two days are the same.
  • The people who work here. They are all very friendly and welcoming. Always open to answering your questions.
  • In under 6 months I have been involved in many different aspects of chemical manufacturing. This has been a steep learning curve but a great way to fast track the start of my career. I'm really looking forward to future rotations within the company as well to broaden my knowledge.
  • Opportunity to be involved in high level projects and communicate with employees of all levels.
  • Trans tasman teams can make communicating difficult and unclear processes or responsibilities for some people.
  • Too many meetings for managers which makes it hard to discuss with them about jobs and projects.
  • Barely any pay rise given to graduates. Graduates should be getting the biggest pay rises with each year of experience, as we start off with such low salaries.
  • A well-established company means that bad habits have been well-formed and people are hesitant to change despite them seeing the obvious positives of change.

Culture
We have a very positive work culture centred around safety and checking in with each other. Our GM gives regular company updates and promotes wellbeing. We don't have a lot of out of work socialising but sometimes have shared lunches in the office or the occasional dinner and movie.

Diversity

Diversity
We hire diversely with both men and women and ethnic groups. I am not aware of LGBT diversity, but I don't hear of any discrimination. The company is pushing for internal hiring but maybe quite a bias toward promoting people with degrees or having a degree as a requirement.

Training
The graduate programme is great and offers a lot of support and training. Other people in the business don't get as much formal training but we have just got LinkedIn learning which I think is a good way to let people learn about anything they want to.
