Culture at BP Australia

8.2
8.2 rating for Culture, based on 13 reviews
Please describe your company's culture both in the office and after hours. Let us know about the structure and hierarchy, cooperation and teamwork, and socialising amongst colleagues.
Culture in the office has become better considering we are coming into the office on a 60/40 basis. I lead the social club and drive a lot of the social events happening in the office and outside. I would say that the culture is good, but often it feels that I am driving the culture for employees to be rewarded. I don't feel like there is a hirechacy or that I am above or below.

I do think the culture is really good overall. People are generally very friendly, supportive and understanding. I think there is good teamwork and people socialise a lot around the office which is great for team bonding. Just a couple of negative points: -Every now and again I hear people talking behind someone else's back at the coffee machine etc. I think this is quite off as someone may overhear and if they know who they are talking about this may unfairly reflect poorly on the person in discussion. Whilst it is best to speak positively, I think if you are going to be speaking like this at all it should be on a private call. -Being a graduate, I feel I am on occasion treated a bit differently and seen more as a 'grad' than just another employee which can be a bit frustrating.

Overall the culture is good. There's plenty of opportunity for this culture to improve to become great. We have the right people for this, we just need more people empowered to further drive this.

In the office, the culture is good, light-hearted and helpful. People chat freely and there is no micro-managing work or friction about being up and about. It is quite loud early in the day (9-9:30am) and later in the day (4-5pm) as people flow in and out of the office. There is no culture of staying super late, especially nearing the end of the week. There is a fairly clear upward line of reporting and levels to the roles (A, B, C, etc). Outside of hours, there is some socialising here and there. Corporate events also happen a few times per year, and a small proportion of the office go, generally the younger people.

Overall, a friendly place to work with reasonable working hours and access to senior leaders.

Work-Life balance is respected and enforced. This means respecting peoples time outside of work hours and recommending people to utilize their annual leave. Leadership Teams and Management has a lot of time for the graduates and career development is extremely important. No one seems to be overworked and if this does occur time in lieu is recommended. Burnt and Psychological safety is a number one priority.

In the Sydney office there are not too many people that attend and everyone else is a lot older so opportunities to really connect with others are not quite there.

bp has a very positive working culture. Everyone is very supportive and willing to help others learn and grow. The senior leaders are very approachable and are willing to offer advice and mentor their younger colleagues. Working for a global organisation, it can be difficult at time to navigate the complexities of the organisation, but there many people who are willing to support you with this.

The office culture is good - people get along well though not much happens after hours. Whilst there is structure and hierarchy, everyone is approachable and friendly.

A very welcoming and inclusive team.

Generally, highly cooperative and culture with a focus on teamwork without too much power distance between individuals allowing for open and honest input. Some people can be highly protective of their work however. Socialising is good in the office but there isn't much of a culture of spending time with colleagues after hours.

I enjoy being in office, it's easier to have a conversation and ask a question than it is to message someone on teams. Though I do appreciate the flexibility of being able to WFH. Out of office hours // non existent
