The BDO Story

In 1963, BDO came into existence thanks to a merger among five independent firms from Canada, the UK, the Netherlands, Germany, and the US. The newly formed company was called Binder Seidman International Group. Ten years after the merger, three of the parent firms, namely Otte & Co (Germany), Djiker & Co (Netherlands), and Binder Hamlyn (UK), took on the same name, which is the company’s current name to date - BDO. In 1988, BDO adopted a global structure, and every member firm had the company's name before it. In 2018, Moore Stephens and BDO decided to merge their businesses in the UK, and this launched the company to the fifth spot on the list of the largest accounting firms in the UK.

Culture & Vibe

Despite the corporate nature of the job, BDO has a laid-back and people-oriented work culture. The company trusts its employees and allows them to decide how, when, and where they want to execute office tasks. There is a strong sense of community at BDO, and employees support each other and collaborate on certain projects to achieve a common goal. The company embraces innovation, and the working atmosphere is such that the employees derive job satisfaction from their work. This is an ideal environment for fresh graduates, interns, and experienced professionals to hone their skills and offer their services. BDO also creates an inclusive environment because it opens its doors to employees from all walks of life regardless of factors such as race, religion, social background, sexuality, and gender.

Career Prospects

At BDO, there are career opportunities and prospects for everyone. The company supports and invests in the professional development of its employees. BDO has the Early Careers Program, which targets undergraduate students who are looking forwards to a career in accounting, tax, consulting, and related fields. This program allows them to realise their professional potential. The company offers its fresh graduates a 3-year graduate programme that allows them to combine a practical job experience with a study leave to earn recognisable industry qualifications. This way, they get to earn, learn, and work simultaneously. They can build their portfolio and get exposed to a world of opportunities. Lastly, there's a 4-year apprenticeship program where they can work and earn professional qualifications at the same time.
